Major functions and role of Institute for Tribal Development Studies(ITDS)

    The Institute for Tribal Development Studies is an autonomous, apolitical, non-profit, non-commercial basis working on the matters relating to the comprehensive upliftment of tribal communities and other weaker section, in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

    Our Vision

    Our vision is to work for the comprehensive and holistic advancement of Adivasi Communities by undertaking evidence based research activities on their socio-economic, political, health and educational, culture and environmental conditions and to advise the governments on the same.

    Our Mission

    Our mission is to make evidence based policy research studies on various problems currently faced by theadivasi communities such as soci-economic, political, health and educational, culture andenvironmental,etc.

Specific Objectives

  • To undertake evidence-based,multi-disciplinary policy research for Adivasi upliftment.
  • To objectively evaluate state and central tribal developmental policies and programmes on the lives and livelihoodsof the Adivasi community such as: agriculture, health, and education, languages and culture, art and artifacts, identity, oral traditional knowledge,etc;
  • To undertake concurrent evaluation / real-time monitoring of state and central intervention initiatives for the advancement of Adivasi communities.
  • To prepare comprehensive database on fast vanishing aspects of tribal cultures, such as: tribal art, artifacts, language, folk knowledge, traditional medicinal practices, dances, songs, music, etc.,
  • To study the implementation of state and cntral Scheduled Tribes Sub-plans and impact assessment of their schemes on the lives and livelihood, of the Adivasi communities.
  • To undertake action research programmes on Adivasi communities.
  • To facilitate exchange of knowledge on adivasi communities by organizing lectures, seminars, symposia, workshop, study tours, and through print and electronic media.
  • To establish and manage research and training institutes to study the problems of Adivasi communities and to impart skills to the tribal youth.
  • To collaborate with other research institutions and civil society groups with similar objectives.
